Internal and external storage sources

Internal and external storage sources provide ample space to store your data, but all that storage space can easily become unorganized. EdgeRover™ catalogs your data so you can browse and search your content no matter the physical location of your storage source.

Add a source

EdgeRover automatically detects your internal storage source when you open the app. This method is the same for external devices as long as you plug them in and similar for social media and cloud storage sources in that you must add the account before EdgeRover can see it.

To add an external source:

  1. Navigate to the Sources tab from the main menu. EdgeRover displays your current sources.
  2. Click Add new Source.
  3. Click Add device from the details panel.
  4. Select the device you'd like to add to your EdgeRover library.
  5. Click Add selected device. After you add a device to your EdgeRover library, you can do a few things with it:
  6. Click Catalog device to have EdgeRover begin cataloging the drive. You need to catalog your drives to get the most out of them using EdgeRover.
  7. Click Cancel > Remove Catalog to stop the catalog process of a device.
  8. Click Eject Source to safely remove your external storage device from your computer. This prevents file and directory corruption.
Tip: If you have a large amount of data to catalog, turn on Turbo Mode. This feature enables EdgeRover to catalog your content faster. We recommend that you don't use it while working on your computer. It might cause other applications to slow down or become unresponsive.

Remove a source

If you have a source that contains files that you no longer need, you might want to remove it from EdgeRover to save the disk space that's used for its catalog.

To remove an internal or external source:

  1. Navigate to the Sources tab from the main menu. EdgeRover displays your current sources.
  2. Find the source you want to remove and click the EllipsisEllipsis icon next to it. A drop-down menu appears.
  3. Click Remove Catalog. A details panel appears with a confirmation notice.
  4. Click Remove Catalog in the details panel.
Note: It might take some time for EdgeRover to remove the catalog. This depends on the number of files cataloged and your computer's performance.
For macOS users: If you use Time Machine to back up your data to an external storage drive, and that drive is compatible with EdgeRover, you can add it to EdgeRover as a Source. EdgeRover will catalog what is on the drive except for the Time Machine backup in order to avoid wasting catalog space.
